i was at d-q university yesterday. i had a lot of fun riding up and down California on the 5 freeway. it was funny because i was the only girl in the car since the other girls kinda bailed. i took my brother for some good laughs on the way and for him to network with some of the colleges he's trying to head up to, UC Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara. on the way up, we had a lot of fun making pit stops and just talking about things on the road. it was nighttime so some of us napped. it sucks because since I'm always copilot, i always have to stay up with the driver and keep them entertained. it wasn't as hard as when we went to Oregon the last time but it was pretty tiring still. on the ride up, Sam was driving which was pretty cool since he drives pretty good. everyone else was throwing their relajo and clowning on each other. we passed through all these counties and saw everything from a different perspective. i finally know what it feels like to be 200-700 miles from home. it's an amazing feeling, as long as I'm not there by myself.
DQ was really pretty and the place has TONS of potential..i, however, think it's disappointing how much it's trashed and people don't seem to pay any attention to it. i really hope that something is done, even if it's not me personally that's doing it, i would like to see it up and running again, at least in my lifetime.
we got there like around 4 in the morning. i had been there before with Sam and some people from LAVC and we had seen it around the same time so it was really nothing new to me. when we got out of the car, the first thing i did was tilt my head up. i love seeing stars, especially in the countryside. you can actually see the constellations and it kinda reminds me that there are higher beings than us who we look up to through those stars. whenever i see stars and untainted nature, i immediately associate it with indigenous culture and nature worship. i think about how they would worship and pray to the stars to give them the things they needed. i also find it astonishing that they had astronomers even back then. well, then again, it's in my blood and i should know better about my people. i should know to expect great things. =D
sleeping there was a trip though because i kept imagining things. i don't like to say that i believe in ghosts but they kinda freak me out. a story they told us about the school was that a dude had hung himself in the bathroom and that night and even to the next day, i pondered on that thought constantly. not just because i was scared, but because they're on sacred ground and it is an indigenous college, it should be a happy place. *sigh* i guess oppressors fuck things up for everyone. as a matter of fact, i kinda wanna look it up now. so as i was going up and down the halls of DQ, because they have no water or electricity, i was kinda scared but it was all good.
i was the first one to wake up in the morning and take a look around the campus because i felt i HAD to see it in the daytime. it was really windy, like the kind of wind that sneaks up behind you and cradles you forward to fall. i saw their kitchen area, their kick it room, the outside of the library and the field. i could picture students walking around on it already. the buildings have lots of murals and artwork on the inside and outside. i think i might come back and upload some pictures.
the meeting was pretty dope too. it was the first time i had seen a regional meeting go so smoothly without everyone trying to put their two cents in at the same time. the only thing i didn't like was that the statewide conference topic went on forever. and, also, since i hadn't gotten enough sleep the night before, i kept falling asleep, to the point where when they wanted to know what was up with our chapter, i was, for once, speechless. i had nothing to say on the matter but when the homie started talking about things we had been doing in our chapter, i was so mad at myself for not saying anything. the rest of it was kind of rushed but it did go smoothly.
after we said our goodbyes, we headed out to l.a. and we made a couple of pit stops along the way. we went to two convenience stores because the homie had to go to the bathroom. at the first one, i just kinda bought snacks and stuff but at the second one, we were kinda stuck waiting in the car. as we were waiting, we saw this dude with a john deere shirt and jeans come out of a truck. we just started laughing right there. then he started cleaning his windshield and he really went to town on it. we were dying at this point because he would clean it and wipe off the excess water on his jeans which was fucking funny. lol. as he drove away with his wife, she was telling him about how we were laughing at him. i don't really care but i kept saying we were gonna get lynched up there...haha. so we head out on the road and we stop in Stockton so that Sam could take a nap for 20 minutes. i was in the car talking to Danny while my brother went to go eat at Carl's Jr. i found it really interesting how much i can relate to Danny about how people kinda put us down for being in mecha and for doing some of the things we do. it's crazy. we spent so much time talking that i realized we had been talking for half an hour and totally forgot about Sam in the back. driving down was entertaining because it was the four of us and we could relate to the common struggles in our communities. we had this whole revolutionary discussion which i thought was beautiful because the only person i could talk to like that for that long is my brother. i loved it. i really wish more of my friends were like them because it is a struggle i go through on a daily basis, i have all these great ideas but nobody to share them with because most people have no idea what I'd be talking about. we came home about 11 and said goodbye.
the trip was really fun, i actually look forward to going back to DQ for spring break but i don't want to stay there for an entire week. i wanna maybe stay for a few days and come home to rest. i most definitely want to go back though.
going to school today was a trip because i was so tired and everyone still wanted to kick it. i liked having a lot of people around me today, it's really cool. we shouldn't make this a daily thing though because it would get old quick. i went to most of my classes today, except English because i needed a rest. pilates was pretty down today, i didn't sleep much but i did have lots of energy nonetheless. math was okay. we have a test on Wednesday which should be easy and i know I'm going to ace it because i actually studied and it's easy work. for Chican@ studies, we corrected our take home quiz and watched YouTube videos on identity which was dope as hell.
tomorrow is gonna be dope too. there's no school for me because it's Cesar Chavez day so I'm going to sleep in and try to catch like 12 hours of sleep..i need to catch up on all the sleep i missed on Saturday night. i wanna go get a pedicure but I'm not sure if i should since money's starting to get tight.
bueno, I'm going to bed..
peace to the fam,
la revolucionaria
***oh yeah, by the way, most annoying song we heard on our way up....i cant help but laugh whenever i hear it...enjoy. lmaooo
